Half-full day trips in Germany/Austria
- Passau
The '3 rivers town', located where the Inn and Ilz rivers flow into the Danube. The old town is located on the point where the Inn joins the Danube. Lovely old buildings, narrow streets, river boats making trips around the town as well as down the Danube to Vienna, Budapest and further east, a castle on a cliff overlooking the rivers and the town. cathedral with the largest cathedral organ in the world, Bohemian Glass Museum.
- Regensburg
UNESCO world heritage site, based on Celtic and Roman settlements with the famous stone bridge. Previously seat of the Permanent Diet of the Holy Roman Empire. The city centre contains more than 1,000 historic buildings, most of them built pre-1500. Also good shopping. We have a suggested walk around the city centre which takes in most of the major historic landmarks.
- Deggendorf and Danube monasteries
at Niederalteich and Metten, and the medieval castle, Schloss Egg. Meander along the narrow roads by the river and watch the barges.
- Salzburg
Nearly 3 hours by car but well worth it! We have a suggested walk around the town to take in most of the major landmarks. Berchtesgaden is also close by.
