What fantastic hosts! It is due to their hospitality that this 2 week holiday in the Bavarian Forest will be one of our most memorable. The apartment had everything we needed and the surroundings were gorgeous. An added bonus was the snow. This is truly a beautiful part of the world with the best tasting water in the world!

We cannot thank you enough for our phemomenal accommodation. The information folders and the local area details were used regularly. The detail and cleanliness of Haus Peter was incredible. The area was gorgeous and the day trips to Cesky Krumlov (Mlyn retaurant) and Plzen (brewery tour) were most memorable.

Our 2 1/2 months at Haus Martin were excellent. We loved the walks, the tennis, the neighbours, the accommodation and - most of all - the generous and 'above the call of duty' hospitality of our hosts. If we had problems, or needed a recommendation or a new sight to see, they came through brilliantly. All in all, it has been one of the best vacations we have ever had. Our German has even improved!

Our fifth stay. Yet again a fabulous welcome from our hosts. We can't get enough of Bayerisch Eisenstein. It is the perfect place to stay but also to use as a base to travel - Prague, Salzburg, Munich are all within reach and help to make our stay all the more memorable. And what about the now famous New Year's Party - with Gluehwein and fireworks on the terrace of Haus Sterr! I hope we can make it back next year, if not we will surely miss the warm atmosphere. Had a fantastic week with a few nice sunny days. Great accommodation as usual and very clean. As this was our second visit here we found our way around easier. The cellar with the supplies didn't let us down, great beers and wine. The mountain bikes are a great idea - our son loved riding through the woods. We will be back. I had a very nice stay at Haus Martin Wald. I had originally planned on using the apartment as a base point for travels to other nearby cities but when I arrived I found the area so charming I decided to just stay in the immediate area. It is easy to sense the Waldgeist out here. Yesterday I thought I saw 2 foxes out of my window. Anyway, thank you again for all your help with my questions. It really made for an enjoyable trip. We have enjoyed our short break here in the Bavarian Forest. Walks to the Arbersee, Schwellhaeusl, down from the Arber peak via the Kleiner Arbersee and the river walk from Regenhuette have been highlights. It was a very pleasant week and we enjoyed are stay tremendously. The house is very cosy and I must say very well organised. We had a very busy week. Your suggestions on your guide book were too tempting and we tried not to miss any of your suggested site visits. So we ended up going to Prague, Salzburg, Regensburg, Passau, Straubing, Deggendorf, Bodenmais, Zwiesel, Arber Mts. apart from from enjoying the local village fish restuarant (fantastic fish soup) and local church celebration of the Assumption of Our Lady. We were always happy to get back to "our" little cottage. On a couple of occasions ( when we visited local towns) we managed to get back early and we enjoyed sitting in the garden, having a nice cup of tea and watching the birds trying to get to some bread we left for them. We are also happy to have been lucky with the weather, just perfect. We realise that notwithstanding our efforts there is still a lot to see and we look forward to having the opportunity to return. I wish you all the success in the world. You do your best to make your guests welcome without being intrusive. Your idea to make available a guide for your guests to read is just great. I felt safe driving around especially when we decided to travel to Austria and the Czech Republic. We always carried the file with us and used it as our guide book on all occasions. Somehow we also managed a game of billiard and found time to watch a couple of DVD'S. That is another great idea of yours. I wish I could think of something to suggest but you have managed to cover all.

For the best locally sourced and organic food, go to the Haus zur Wildnis - they do some fantastic things with simple ingredients. Great area for lots of walks and cycle rides and stunning views (climb the Grosser Arber!). We've been so busy every day that we need another holiday. We'll be back.

Having arrived from 5 star accommodation in the Austrian lake district, our expectations were high. We were not disappointed. Haus Martin was an oasis of calm and comfort which provided the perfect base to enjoy this fantastic region and the natural beauty of the forest which surrounds it. Add to that the location of this area - and, in particular, the proximity to Prague - the genuine friendliness of the locals and the approachability and helpfulness of our hosts and the result is an unforgettable holiday experience. We will be back!

Had a great week - the house is an excellent base for exploring the area. The children loved the fact you could get to several countries in a week. We went to Prague, Salzburg and Passau. Our last visit in 2006 was wonderful - we didn't think it could get any better - we were wrong! The new apartments are fabulous. The folder with tourist information bursting with information - it just keeps improving! The DVD and book collections have grown. The games room with the table football, pool table and air hockey kept our boys occupied for hours. And a sauna! The views are as great as ever. We have booked a 2008 family Chritmas holiday staying in Bayerisch Eisenstein at Haus Sterr. This was booked from information obtained over the internet and because Christmas is very important we decided to take a short break there at the end of March. We arrived late evening and found the accommodation very welcoming, clean and warm bearing in mind that outside the temperature was -2 and the snow was about 300mm deep. When we woke the following morning the dream came alive, the views from Haus Sterr are wonderful and the surrounding area stunning. There is so much to do and the location is ideal for skiing at Arber, exploring the National Forest and local villages. We can not wait to return at Christmas and our party is continuing to grow.

We have had a really wonderful time. The house is just beautiful - great attention to detail - loved the sauna! The home made hot cross buns were sensational. Great skiing, walking etc. The meals at the Fischerwirt, Poeschl and Pizzeria were all great. We loved the provisions store for guests which we used frequently. We will definitely be back.

This was our second visit and it was as good as the first. This time we ventured a little further. We drove to Prague and took the metro into the city. A fantastic day. This year the children managed to use the ski lift. The apartment is a relaxing home from home. Thanks again for another wonderful holiday. We don't normally return to the same place for holidays. We had everything we could possibly need in the apartment. The festivities we attended we so enjoyed. Christmas has never been enjoyed so much.The mayor and his deputy were very welcoming. Also enjoyed the church concert. The skiing was great, tobogganing great fun, walks through the forest so different from our lives at home. The food and drink supplies saved us on several occasions. And we thank you for the schnaps evening. You really are the benchmark for others to reach for.

Vielen Dank! Even in pouring, no sheeting, rain, this is a favourite place. The welcome is fantastic, the service fantastic and we are quite jealous of your orchard and veg patch. Walking is a pleasure and you don't need a map. Please eat at the Poeschl restaurant. A real treat. Walk across the 'Iron Curtain' as was. See enclosures with a pack of wolves, wild horses and sample the schnaps. All in 2 days.

Probably the best holiday accommodation we have experienced - you seem to have thought of everything we might have needed and a little more too! The notes and guidance allowed us to organise our holiday in a way that allowed us to fit in as much as we could during our stay.
Thanks for your consideration, it has made a real difference. This was the first holiday we have taken in this area and will now, definitely, not be the last - we look forward to a return visit in the near future. We shall return home and tell our friends about our experience - I'm sure they will now consider a trip to this beautiful area. We shall take back many memories.

What can we say? Simply the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in - and we've stayed in a good few. Attention to detail, welcome and the ambience of Haus Sterr cannot be faulted. The little touches and thoughtfulness of our hosts are really appreciated. The area is very beautiful and we have had so little time to explore. We will return - and Haus Sterr will be our firm choice!

The weather could not have been kinder to us on what we've found to be a superbly relaxing holiday. So many lovely walks and places of interest to explore, virtually on the doorstep. The accommodation was very comfortable, and really well appointed with everything we could possibly need. Special thanks to Martin for introducing us to the wicked ways of schnaps and to Margaret for her help in sorting out a fishing permit - the 2lb trout nearly snapped the rod! All in all we've had a grand time.

Our 3rd visit and we are still exploring. Salzburg was fantastic, plenty to do with our family of 3 young boys. Our hosts as gracious as ever presented our children with 3 Easter eggs - many thanks. We totally agree with all previous comments regarding the excellent, very clean and comfortable accommodation and the friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of Margaret & Martin. We have had a wonderful time here, the first week almost T-shirt weather and lunching on the balcony, then the 2nd week with fabulous snow, especially higher up. All in all a great holiday. Superb area for seeing and doing and the best we've stayed in as regards service offered by owners and all the extras we might have needed. We have visited Germany several times during the summer but this is our first winter holiday. What wonderful experience. Our apartment was so comfortable, well equipped, well maintained and just a stroll from some superb restaurants, recommended by Margaret & Martin. The welcome pack and availability of items for purchase is an excellent idea and a great help to the independent traveller. The amount of information supplied was outstanding. We have very much enjoyed our holiday in and around Bayerisch Eisenstein. The first time we have tried a winter holiday and it has been a great experience. The apartment was everything we wanted it to be. The children enjoyed the sledging behind the house (we all did!) and learning to ski. Everyone has been very helpful and friendly wherever we have visited. Having lived in Germany for 5 years, we didn't realise this beautiful area existed. We chose Bayerisch Eisenstein and Haus Sterr as we thought it would be the perfect location to enable us to spend time with another family member living near Munich and for 2 of us to have our 'fix' of skiing. Only the slight lack of snow disappointed, everything else was perfect and so well thought out. We did get 4 days (well, mornings!) on the slope so all was not lost and our 3 year old was delighted to have her first experience on skis. Many thanks to Margaret & Martin for all the advice and information pre-holiday and while here and for the excellent schnaps tasting evening. We are already talking about a possible summer visit to see the beauiful area in the sunshine!

That you for the warm and friendly welcome that awaited us after a long drive. It was so good to have Margaret and Martin's generous assistance and knowledge of th area to point us in the right direction. Thomas and Isobel rate the table tennis, James appreciated the comfy pillows and William liked the comfy corner sofa! Keith (and the rest of us) thought the Poeschl-Stuben restaurant was hard to beat. I appreciated the cleanliness of the apartment and the supply of 'goodies' in the cellar. We had great fun canoeing down the Regen river, enjoying the spectacualr views from the Arber, visiting Prague, Passau and Cesky Krumlow. We've had a wonderful stay here - a great location with so much to do but we paced ourselves well and now feel totally destressed. We had a lovely stay here in Haus Sterr. \the top floor apartment was extremely comfortable and well equipped. The only real problem was that the beds were so comfortable it was diffciult to resist the temptation to sleep in late every day! Everything at Haus Sterr was very professionally thought out with amazing attention to detail. This has been a great location for both sightseeing and general relaxation with some wonderful forest trails to walk through. The local restaurants also proved to be excellent and convenient to walk to and from. Thanks to Margaret and Martin for all their advice and assistance and for organising the tickets for the Dragon Slaying Festival in Fuerth im Wald, that was a real treat! We'll certainly recommend Haus Sterr to our friends.

We had a lovely time here at Haus Sterr. The beds are really comfy (I slept very well). I liked going up the mountain in a gondola and going to the Dragon Slaying Festival. "Dank u voor het fantastisch verblijf in uw appartement. We hebben het prima naar onze zin gehad; heerlijk geskied en doorna lekker relaxen in dit appartement. Alles zit erop en eraan, wat een luxe, heerlijk. Helaas is 'de Jan' al de na de eerste dag skieen van de trap gevallen hier en moest de dokter bezocht worden. ook hierbij werden we fijn geholpen. Hij heeft zich vermaakt met DVDs kijken en zenders zoeken op de TV. Af en toe wandelen en lekker koffiedrinken in het dorp. Nu zit het er alweer op. Een week gaat snel. Bedankt voor alles, wij zijn heel tevreden!"

"We found the accommodation excellent - homely, beautifully decorated and well equipped and within walking distance of shops, playground and restaurants. We enjoyed a relaxing time and made use of the books, puzzles, games and DVDs available, the food and drink in the cellar providing a real bonus. We visited Austria and the Czech Republic. We went on local walks and took the cable car up the Arber. Our only regret is not having longer here. We have all had a marvellous time. Certainly a holiday to be recommended."

"First real holiday found on the internet. You have a wonderful, helpful, easy to use website. Love the apartment, sleeping accommodation, modern appliances and facilities. Particularly loved the balcony on sunny mornings. We enjoyed walks in the forest and across the Czech border, day trips to Passau and Prague, fine and filling meals! You have catered well with food in the freezer and handy information about places to visit. And we bought lots of beautiful glass ornaments, animals, candle holders and vases. "We arrived after a long drive in pouring rain and very hungry to find a superb place of peace and calm. We especially appreciated the wonderful food in the freezer (a great idea!). The apartment was spotlessly clean and it was super to have a bathroom separate from that used by our teenage daughters(!). We also appreciated the file of information about the area and the very nice garden. We had a great time walking, hiring bikes and riding through the forest. Dinner or lunch at Horska Chata in Hamry (Czech Republic) is not to be missed and then a day in Prague is essential. Just walking around Bayerisch Eisenstein and learning the history of the border is fascinating."

"We have now returned from Bayerisch Eisenstein and wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had. The apartment was great: spacious, very well equipped and in a lovely location: we particularly appreciated the freezer in the basement and the wine/beer which saved us having to find supplies on the Sunday. We spent the week walking, including an arduous circular route to the Grosser Arber, but the views and scenery made it well worthwhile. "Having booked this apartment on the internet, we were not sure what to expect, however, we were in for a very pleasant surprise. It is situated within easy walking distance of amenities including shops, churches and a selection of good restaurants. Public transport is also easily accessible. The apartment itself is extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and with every possible need catered for, including laundry facilities. The many thoughtful touches range from tea towels and washing up liquid to basic food items and toilet rolls. There is a helpful range of literature about local facilities and activities. In addition, there are English books to read and DVDs. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, unobtrusive but available when needed. We all agree that it far exceeds the best apartment we have ever stayed in and would like to say a big thank you to our hosts."
